UCD-ECL-Xenon Patented Dual-Lamp Architecture

The EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamp is unique and is comprised of two individual lamps. With the patented dual-lamp architecture, when one lamp fails, the secondary lamp instantly ignites. The result is a continuous illumination that leads to greater safety and productivity. The redundant system works by using a primary lamp for primary operation with the secondary lamp waiting in a standby mode. The ballast continuously monitors the performance of the primary lamp; the moment the primary lamp reaches its life end, the ballast automatically diverts power to the secondary lamp. This unique feature enables EcoUCDUSA UCD lamps to last over 100.000 hours

Starting / Restrike Time

Most HID lamp systems have lengthy start-times, ranging from 5 to 20 minutes. EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps feature instant start and instant re-strike capabilities. Prolonged start times are both an inconvenience and a potential safety hazard. Common HID lamps are prone to these inconveniences by the time required for cool-down prior to re-striking an HID lamp. EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps are one of the fastest-starting HID lamps available, realizing full light output in less than 60 seconds. LPS, HPS and MH lamps require a cool-down period of up to 10 minutes. No cool-down period is required prior to re-strike with UCD-ECL lamps. More costly HPS lamps may be equipped with dual-arc tubes, where one serves as a back-up, to mitigate lengthy cool-down periods. However, these lamps still require a warm-up period of approximately 4 – 5 minutes prior to achieving full brightness.

Lamp Life

EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps are rated over 100.000 hours. This longevity is achieved through the unique, patented design featuring a dual-lamp system. This, naturally, makes EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps a superior choice when compared to HPS/MV, with an average life of about 24,000 hours, or LPS with an average life of about 18.000 hours, or with MH which typically has a 10.000-hour life. EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps were subjected to 2.000 switch-cycle tests under extreme temperatures. The tests were conducted using a single-lamp configuration and replicate 2.000 days (> 7 years) of operation. Baseline performance standards were measured prior to beginning the tests. Throughout the testing process, the lamps performed at the same level as during the baseline tests. These results demonstrate that EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps, with their patented dual-lamp architecture, continue to perform for a period of time equal to >14 years, even under stressed conditions.

Lumen Maintenance

Simply put – lumen maintenance is the ability of a lamp to retain its light output over time. Greater lumen maintenance means a lamp will remain brighter longer. Two of the most common HID lights are HPS & MH. HPS has a lumen maintenance of 83%, MH up to 65% and UCD-ECL at 91%. EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL is by far superior in this regard. This is significant because EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps will outperform most HID lamp-systems in longevity and produce a brighter light over the life of the lamp. Another advantage is the reduction of lamp replacement maintenance costs over time when compared to other technologies.

Color Temperature

A noticeable advantage of EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps is their ability to produce a pleasing light that is visually close to natural daylight, with a color temperature of 4000 – 4500-5000K.

Color Rendering Index (CRI)

EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps produce a near natural light that enhances visibility.

EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps have a CRI of > 94, which exceeds the CRI of most energy-saving high-power lamps available today. Natural sunlight has a CRI of 100. Lamps with high CRI indices are associated with enhanced worker productivity in manufacturing and warehousing, increased sales in retail and increased student performance in schools and universities. EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL’s high CRI of > 94 realize the following: Greater safety and security by increasing visibility on streets where HPS lamps have a low CRI of 22 Colors are rendered more clearly and vividly compared to HPS. As color contrast is improved less light is required to reveal subtle details Objects are rendered closer to their true colors – close to viewing in natural daylight. For security: UCD-ECL allows for more accurate color depiction from cameras and witnesses. EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps produce a crisp, white light, in contrast to HPS or LPS lighting systems, which produce a murky, yellow color. Since EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps produce a higher color temperature light, they are perceived as producing more light than HPS or LPS systems. The result is simple. Less total light is required to produce an equivalent light output effect. This perceived increase in light output is measured as scotopically-enhanced lumens, often referred to as pupil lumens. Comparing the 250W HPS system with the 70W UCD-ECL system, HPS (lower CRI) covers the entire illuminated area with a drab, yellow look, while the UCD-ECL system (higher CRI) reveals true, vibrant colors.

Operational Temperature

EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps are an ideal solution for all environments as they feature a wide operating temperature range of (-50º C / -58º F) to (85º C / 185º F). In colder climates, LED systems inherently do not generate enough forward heat to melt ice accumulations on lighting fixtures. Heating elements are a needed essential component, which must be installed, which diminishes the potential energy savings. EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL systems offer sufficient forward heat so ice accumulation is not an issue.

Eco-Friendly

Only minute amounts of mercury are used in the manufacture of each EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamp. Independent laboratory TCLP toxicity testing was unable to detect the presence of any mercury in EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL lamps tested, and thus a rating of 0.01 mg was issued.  Fewer raw materials are used in manufacturing due to the small size of the lamps, further reducing their environmental impact.

Energy Savings

When comparing the 250W MH system to the 120W UCD-ECL system, the perceived light output of the EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL system is higher, however the EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL system yields this performance while consuming less than 50% of the electricity used by the MH system.

Also, when comparing the 250W HPS system with the 60W UCD-ECL system, you see very similar light output patterns/distribution with the EcoUCDUSA UCD-ECL system consuming 75% less watts.
